“Seemingly carefree designs reveal a sophisticated vision”
After years of designing polished worlds for luxury clients, I found something more personal in Kinooni House, Lamu. Its layered history and quiet strength gave me space to create a world that felt truly mine.
Lamu’s rich Swahili culture pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and collaborate with local artisans. Their deep knowledge and craft challenged and elevated my ideas, blending what I knew with what I was discovering.
Travel has always shaped my work, and Lamu brought it all into focus. The cultural and religious mix here deeply influenced the restoration of Kinooni House — a dialogue between past and present.
Recently, I joined the Flip Floppi project, where design meets impact. Alongside Swahili women, we turn waste into meaningful products rooted in creativity, culture, and community.
Design, for me, is about the story it tells, the people behind it, and the risks it takes to make something real.
